Guys Helping at Batavia
Just ask someone for help and this is likely what will occur at Batavia R/C Club.

Dick Ash lands at Batavia R/C field
I showed up at the field to find this gorgeous 1940 Waco owned and flown by Dick Ash parked at the end of our flying field.
FunFly - Batavia RC - FunFly - JUNE 7, 8 (Sat, Sun)
Wow - is anyone else as exhausted from this event ? I'm proud to say we had outstanding attendance by all members of the Batavia R/C crew at the FunFly. We had very high temps 91, and very very high winds. The wind made the high temps bearable, and made flying a bit challenging. At the highest point we hit 32 mph. Many of us enjoyed the extra boost in speed and very few flew under 100 mph. We had rare points with no flying and some guys hovering their airplanes in the wind.

Many Thanks go to Devin McGrath (DevinRocks.Com) for performing in super high winds and all of us totally enjoyed his skillful flying. He flew a 102" QQ Yak, DA 100cc
Who do ya think is the teacher and the student ? Ted is here on the buddy box with a very experienced Henrietta heli flyer. He was offering heli training to anyone who wanted it - and flying in high winds.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Tonights meeting is moved to APRIL 10th. Same location, and time.
Looks like the weather is changing rapidly, in our favor. Today Thursday 56, then 45, and Sat and Sun of 52 and 58 ! All sunny days ! Can someone please drop by the field and send me a report of the conditions and what you think we need to do to get it flyable ? Do we have a method of rolling the field ? Do we need a work day to replace divots ? Dang spring just sprung up on me. I have my plane pez dispensor filled and raring to get airborne.
I've seen some of the speed demons Gary is planning for this year. I recommend we put three spotters with bull horns around him, and build a fall out shelter :) Ted and Vinnie (Me) are also planning on proving who top gun is in the Jet arena. I threw down the gauntlet claiming I'll bee keeping up with those 130 mph speed demons from West of us, and he gladly accepted the challenge. Actually I'm more psyched just to do some formation flying with him.
You might find a bunch of us are going to be getting silly with Flying Wings this summer. These are inexpensive wings that we will overpower and not care if we smack into each other. Don't worry we'll be person safe, but plane crazy.
I'm still hoping more members will fill out the member information and provide photos or catch me at the field to take both. We can sit down for five minutes and I will catch your info and get to know you a little better.
I want to know what projects everyone is working on. So I'll have my reporter hat on during some of the time I should be causing my planes physical stress.
I've talked to lots of folks about joining Batavia R/C this year and I think our numbers will increase again this year.

Dr Louis Green, a Batavia R/C member for about 30 years, died today. Lou was liked by all and will be missed. God Bless and happy flying Lou. May all your landings be soft ones. Look down every once in a while and send us gentle breezes.
Indoor Flying:
Ted Ryan's quote says it all: "I thought I new how to fly, until I started flying indoors".
It's a very humbling experience to fly a plane indoors. But we have a group of guys keeping the cob webs off their transmitters. The key is to build LIGHT - 8 oz's is about the top end of the build you want. The "Pro's" are down around 4-5 oz's. This means 2mm depron, tiny motor, 10 amp ESC, little 400 mah 20C, 2S or 3S lipo and 5 gram servos. The servos should be pretty quick - .10 is recommended.
If you've hung in there - you are surely learning to use your rudder. I find it easiest to do a flat turn - rudder left and aileron right. I can come very close to the wall and spin on a dime. My plane is to heavy though 10-11 oz's, so it noses in very often and has to be flown too fast. Talk to Ted or Ron and now Joe Palmer is an indoor wizard.
Congrats to you guys who stuck it out and invested in indoor flying. I think most of us are ready for the big armory event in March. Check it out on the Event page. |
